All about Agile Egypt
|
Agile Egypt is a unique one-day conference that will be held on Sunday March 2nd 2008. It is the first of its kind in the Arab Middle East. During this one-day gathering, several world-class agile practitioners and coaches will provide a collection of presentations and workshops covering a wide range of topics about Agile Software Development. The main objective is introducing the agile approach and methodologies to software development organizations in Egypt.
During this one-day gathering, several agile practitioners will provide a collection of presentations and workshops covering a wide range of topics in the agile domain. Starting with a keynote and ending with an open forum where like-minded people can gather to discuss interests and more.
We have a number of goals behind organizing Agile Egypt.
- Increasing awareness about Agile software development in Egypt
- Introducing a new approach to process improvement to the Egyptian software market
- Presenting a new set of concepts, and practices that will compliment the CMMI initiative in Egypt
- Presenting small and medium businesses that are not yet ready for CMMI with a software development process that will provide them with discipline and increase their efficiency.

Dr. Ahmed Sidky
As the director of business technology at X2A Consulting, Ahmed Sidky helps guide organizations during their transition to agile software development. Dr. Sidky graduated as Valedictorian with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and received an award for the Best Creative Solution while working as an Internet Solution Developer for one of the leading IT corporations in the Middle East. He earned a Masters degree in Software Engineering from Virginia Tech with a research focus on Requirements Engineering. Dr. Sidky then completed his doctorate in Agile Software Development Methodologies and Process Improvement. His latest research is an agile measurement index and a process framework for the adoption of agile practices. Dr. Sidky's work has gained popularity and respect in the agile community as a practical approach for organizations of all types attempting agile adoption efforts. Dr. Sidky is frequent speaker at a number of national and international conferences. He is also a reviewer for a number of journals, conferences and publishing houses.
David Hussman
David has been creating software for many years in a variety of domains: digital audio, digital biometrics, medical, financial, retail, and education to name a few. David now spends his time mentoring and coaching agile communities in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia. Along with presenting and leading workshops / tutorials at conferences in the U.S. and Europe, David has contributed to several books (“Managing Agile Projects” and “Agile in the Large”), worked on agile curriculum for The University of Minnesota and Capella University, and is currently writing a book for the Pragmatic Programmer series. David has spoke at over 15 national and international conferences about Agile development. David has helped numerous organizations adopt agile software methods. Some of David’s clients are: Best Buy, Medtronic, Wells Fargo, Nokia, Dow Jones, Allianz Life, Oracle (Retek), Thomson Publishing, US Army, Booz Allen, Pearson and Travelocity
Jutta Eckstein
Jutta is an experienced independent consultant and trainer from Braunschweig, Germany, for agile software development. Her know-how in agile processes is based on over ten years experience in developing object-oriented applications. She is an experienced XP, and agile process coach and trainer. Jutta has worked with teams of different sizes mainly in the finance industry to help them using agile processes successfully. As a coach she focuses on the process as well as on the quality and on soft factors like communication. Besides engineering software Jutta has been designing and teaching OT courses in industry. Having completed a course of teacher training and led many 'train the trainer' programs in industry, she focuses also on techniques that help to teach object technology. Jutta has presented work in main areas at conferences such as ACCU (UK), OOPSLA (USA), SPA (UK), XP (Italy) and XP and Agile Universe (USA). She is a member of the board of the Agile Alliance, a supporter of the Manifesto for Agile Software Development and a member of several Interest Groups.
Jeroen van Menen
Currently Jeroen works as senior developer for Linkit Projects, one of a small group of companies in the Netherlands that uses SCRUM and extreme programming for their projects. He is involved in the development of an ASP.net web application for a dutch Bank and, as an agile evangalist, he supports the customer with writing their user stories. After becoming master of science in the field of Medical Informatics he joined a software firm and created enterprise applications for the health care industry. As a lead developer he worked closely with the customers and a small group of developers. It was then when he started to value and use agile practises. As a team lead and later as test automation lead he introduced unit testing, FitNesse, continues integration in their development process. In the role of test automation lead Jeroen started developing and now activily maintains WatiN, an open source project for Web Application Testing In .Net.
Henri ter Steeg
Henri has been developing software for over 25 years. He has a strong passion for satisfying end-user needs, as well as solid code design. He is currently working as an Agile coach for LinkiT projects in The Netherlands. From the early nineties, he has always developed software in an agile way, making sure the end-users get what they need. He worked as a lead developer in various domains: local government, finance and factory automation. During later years he moved on to Agile and Test Driven Development. He cannot imagine developing software successfully without it anymore.
